It is a landmark project among 172 major water conservation and water supply projects identified by the State Council, and is also the largest and most invested water allocation project in southwest China, and one of the largest water diversion projects under construction in China.
The project consists of two parts: water source project and water transmission project. The water source project is located in Shigu Town, Yulong County, which takes water from Jinsha River, about 1.5 km upstream of Shigu Town, and lifts water from the pumping station to the main trunk canal. The water transmission project starts from Wangchengpo, Shigu Town, Lijiang, and passes through Lijiang City, Dali Prefecture, Chuxiong Prefecture, Kunming City, Yuxi City, and ends at Xinpo Back, Honghe Prefecture.
The total length of all kinds of buildings in the whole line is 755.44 kilometers, including the total length of the total trunk canal for water transmission is 664.24 kilometers, and there are 58 main tunnels of 611.99 kilometers; there are 120 construction branch tunnels of 91.2 kilometers.
The planned dynamic total investment is 78.048 billion yuan, and the total construction period is planned to be 96 months.
After the completion of the project, the water receiving area involves a total of 34 water receiving communities in six cities and towns along the main water transmission channel, benefiting 36,900 square kilometers of land. About 11.12 million people directly benefit, improve the irrigation area of 636,000 mu, designed to divert an average of 3.403 billion cubic meters of water per year, to Dianchi, Qilu Lake and the other dragon lake recharge 672 million cubic meters of water.
